Default '03 in VIN range...to buy or not to buy?

Been a long time since I got rid of my '00 Disco and I'm looking to get back into the fold. Have looked at a few in my area, nothing has me really excited, and lo and behold last night one pops up on Craigslist that gets my attention. Call the guy, find out a ton of work has been done (head gaskets, brakes, tires, etc) and sounds well taken care of by a responsible owner. It is an '03 with 107K miles and in the VIN range of the oil pump/engine block issue. Can get it for about $5K, which is the best I've seen around me for months considering the history of this particular vehicle.

So my question to the crowd: would you get an '03 within the VIN range with those miles and that background?

at ths point the VIN range you speak of is not an issue. the price is not bad, for me a tad high. Do you want locking CDL. Who did the head gaskets. are their reciepts. Did it overheat, it so how bad.... DO you have a local mechanic to check her out. I would offer 4200.

Here we go again....

Yes buy it, I have recomended lots of people to do the same. Land Rover recalled the bad engines and if it had not been done then the engine would have grenaded by now. Read the threads on what to look for and buy it and enjoy driving in a cheap good looking Discovery

Oh by the way, mine is an 03 in the "death" range and its great

Mine is in the bad VIN range....has made it to 114,000. I've replaced the oil pump gear, outer ring cracked in 3 pieces. Probably many peoples are cracked. Its a poor design. Mine has no ticks. Runs well. I have done all the maintenance myself. You have to want to work on these cars...or have deep pockets and not care about spending money. If your worried, install an oil pressure guage. I did.

If all other aspects of the Rover look good...roll the dice and get it. Now is the time these Discovery's can be had for a deal
