Not sure why you are having issues/questions regarding the early model t/case and it's solenoid.
If all you are want to do is install a cable shifter then do it and don't mess with the solenoid or extra wiring that might come with the shifter. Nothing will be different, your indicator light will work when the CDL is engaged, your shift solenoid will work as it always has and you will have the ability to turn off your ETC,ABS and Hill Decent if you want when off the road.
So leave it alone.

DiscoMike, Bballjames is asking about the solenoid mounted in the '04 shifter. If it is not connected or not removed he won't be able to shift Hi/Lo. I did this installation early this year, and I recommend removing the solenoid from the '04 shifter and leaving the t-case mounted solenoid as is.

And Bballjames, others clearly have other opinions but if I were you I would definitely use the plate that came with the '04 shifter. For me the most difficult part of the job was cutting the larger hole in my original plate. You'll just need to detach and then reattach the transmission shifter cable. And as for replacing the screws, I used #14x3/4 sheet metal screws. Half-inch screws might be okay but quarter-inch seems way too short to me.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes for you.

Sorry for any confusion Mike but I think you were talking about T-case solenoid and we are all referring to the solenoid on the 04 shifter itself. I can understand Min01 point on the black plate but if you have the right tools cutting this will be no problem you can look at 04 plate and see exactly how big hole needs to be. Bballjames you know from tinkering with the 04 set-up that solenoid that prevents you from going hi/low has to be removed or you cant move lever.

Thank you guys for all the info. I really appreciate it.

And Mike, the others are correct. I was talking about the solenoid on the shifter itself, not the t-case. I won't be messing with that one at all.

Thanks again everyone. I will be sure to take some pics and let you know how it goes!
