04 D2 Horrid idle
howdy folks.
I bought a mint condition 2004 D2, 120k miles. Bought it while in Florida and had it shipped up.
Been driving it around just fine, put around 30 miles on it so far.
Well, yesterday, I go to pull out my RRC parts car from the woods and the thing starts running like it's got a huge choppy cam in it, but still felt decently smooth? This was while it was in park, hooking up the RRC.
Basically died, restart, then it dies again in a second. Well, it's got a quarter tank of fuel maybe the gauge is wrong? So I put another 2 gallons in for the hell of it.. which in theory should be plenty by itself on flat ground.
Starts up fine..still sounds like it's a dragster. But keeps on running. Took my 30 minutes to get my gas can - drive to the station - and put it in the truck.
Well, I get into my scan tool and read codes, P0101 and P0103.. and idle is showing 75 g/s on the maf!!!
So I remove the MAF entirely and it's running pretty smooth, but popping out the exhaust..Rich I guess.
Noticed the housing looked dirty..went ahead and sprayed it down with MAF cleaner and reinstalled. Now it's at 6.8 at ~1100 (if I can get it to stay running) and it'll start - run like it's running on 2 cylinders, if I apply full throttle it will keep running, when I let off the throttle it'll run smooth for a moment - then fall into 2 cylinder "eco" mode.
I grabbed a (supposedly) known good MAF for a 4.6, genuine Bosch, and put it in..runs horribly and MAF readings are way too high.
I can't wrap my head around how it was running perfect - to this.
The truck has new coils, plugs, wires, top end, everything. I have receipts from the previous owner that took it to a European specialty shop. Everything is Bosch or NGK..
I'm going to test for vacuum leaks, install a PCV308, and see about changing the CPS. All things I was going to anyway, see if it helps.
In the mean time, any thoughts?
