Default 04 Disco 2 with 2" lift - 255/70r18 vs 275/65r18

So I have poured over the forum and brought up about every thread I can find on this. I'm planning 2" OME lift and new tires.

255/70r18 and 275/65r18 seem to be same tire diameter and only differ in width by about 1/2 inch. I've seen some people say 255/70r18 on a 2 inch lift is perfect and has no rubbing given it's width. I have stock front and rear bumpers. I also seem to have the longer turn stops on my Disco 2 and was hoping to shorten them to improve turn radius. Would this favor the 255/70r18?

But I also see plenty of threads with people running the 275/65r18 and also say they have no rubbing even with the slightly wider tire. Can I still shorten the turn stops? I know I'm basically only talking about 1/2 inch of width between the 2, but just wondering people's thoughts?

Based on pictures, I can't see much difference in the look of the tires between the two unless someone disagrees or has pics.

Thanks
David

i have 275/65/18s on my '04 with a 2" lift. they definitely rub on full lock turns. i have nice polished spots on my trailing arms to prove it even if i couldn't hear it. can't speak to the 255/70/18s.

my son has 245/75/16s and they do not rub at all on his '01.

When you really get to the point of trying to maximize tire size, the answer will vary somewhat from vehicle to vehicle due to manufacturing tolerance and component wear differences. Only way to know for sure is to try and see. You can always space the turn stops back out with washers, or just live with some rubbing.

Ya, I don't mind the rubbing so much but I know that could change if I try adjust turn stops. Was trying to nail down difference in that 1/2 of width between the 2 tires. Probably not worth thinking too much over. I'll probably go with the 255 vs 275 to give me more turn radius options.

I run 255/85/16 which is a bit taller than 255/70/18 and it rubs slightly at full lock but only going one direction. Otherwise, no issues with a 2 inch lift with my setup
