Default 04 Disco 2 - squealing / chirping

I have a 2004 Disco SE7, with a bad squeal / chirp coming from the engine compartment (replacement engine only has 15k on it - did not put it in myself). Have read a lot of the posts, and have replaced the belt, both idler pulleys, and the belt tensioner assembly. When I replaced the belt, the squealing went away for about 20 minutes, now it is a constant again. Once the vehicle warms up, squealing goes away when idling or when just cruising. If I hit the gas, the squealing comes back really bad. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I didnt realize when I bought this vehicle how much I would learn about how to do basic repairs!

Thanks!

Sure, remove the belt and start spinning/checking each bearing till you find the bad one.

Thanks Mike! I pulled the belt, spun all the wheels again and still could not detect any noise from any bearings. Replaced the belt with a Dayco from AB. The squeaking noise stopped... for about 10 minutes. Then it came back. I drove it for a week or so, hoping it was the belt breaking in, and it didn't stop. I then reversed the belt thinking that might help. It stopped squeaking... for 5 minutes. Could it be that Dayco belts do this? Any other thoughts?

If I were you, and since you are getting good at removing the belt, take it off again and check for any play in any of the pulleys.... Earlier this year my 2000 DII had the same symptoms, and it ended up being the water pump... I only briefly checked the pulleys, but soon as my vehicle started shredding belts is when I finally figured out what it was... that squeel/chirp is a warning sign to find & fix the problem before you get stranded somewhere

My squeaking belt noise came from the PAS pump pulley walking forward on the shaft about 1/8" so it was not inline with the other pulleys. It took me 3 belts, a tensioner, and idler pulley to figure it out.

I sure appreciate everyones help!!!! it turned out to be the power steering pump, which had been replaced 6 months previous and was still under warranty. So now I'm going again. Any suggestions for the future are appreciated!!!

I have the same squel only occurs during sudden acceleration. It does not seem to be coming from the front of engine. It does seem to be coming from the driver side exhaust area. any thoughts?

Also, I am having overheating issues even though the Coolant tank is full. I have bleed the system mutilple times.
