Default 04 Disco

I am looking at a 04 Discovery that has 81000 miles on it. The body and interior are immaculate. The only thing wrong with it is a cracked front bumper cover and has been described as having the customary tick which the owner describes as a valve lifter problem. I plan on replacing plugs, wire, filters, etc.. of I buy it. Is there anything I should definitely look for? Thoughts on the 04? Thanks

Default Yes..

Yes, assume that only the body and interior are the only things you don't have to look after... Tick, lifter and cam problem..That would signal rebuilding the top end and oil pump for piece of mind...as if you don't.... these problems will cause you to lose your mind....

Before you buy this or any Rover, have a good Rover mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection so you don't buy some surprises, no compression test is required.
Also plan on doing a lot more then what you have mentioned, follow my major service list at the top of this section, to the letter, including the front drive shaft and plan on spending around $700 plus if you do the work, then it will be time to play.

Then make arrangements to find a shop where the truck is located and have it checked before you lay out any money.

Well I just lost it. Totally bummed out now. Hopefully the guy that bought it backs out and I get a 2nd chance offer. He has another for sale that also ticks w/ less miles. It is black on black, but I want alpaca Beige interior.

do yourself a major favor, stay away from ebay Land Rovers. If you really want a Discovery find a local truck and have a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Overheating issues and engine ticks are just two of the common and very expensive issues that you will deal with on these vehicles. Spend a couple of hours and read the stories of what others have learned on this forum. Like Disco Mike said, the 60k miles service will set you back plenty if you do it yourself, be prepared! Really, stay away from ebay trucks, they are being sold there for a reason and it certainly isn't to benefit you. Good luck. Phil

here's another resource - www.statewidelist.com, searches craigslist for Rover for your state, groups by metro area.

yup ... stay away from EvilBay. That's where I'm sticking my '04 if I can't find out why it's using so much oil! (j/k)

Speaking of used 04 Land Rover Discoverys on ebay (and the advice not to buy one there) does anyone happen to know this one?
Land Rover : Discovery Land Rover : Discovery | eBay
Just curious because I went to check it out today.
Thanks,
Paul
