So Tom posted Imperial 215157 for the standard clutch in the D1 tech section. Nowhere in the sticky does it say anything about D2's.

It will work. I am using that exact clutch with a D1 fan on my D2. And the only reason I have a D1 fan on it is because the original ('04) clutch/fan was one piece, and I had a spare D1 fan blade laying around.

Ended up replacing viscous clutch with Autozone Torqflo purchased for $70 vs. $230 AB.
Bought the AllMakes waterpump (would have done better except for the urgency) for $110. Into the job we realized that the lower radiator hose plastic piece has eroded with Dexcool looking corrosion and ended up having to buy an original assembly for another $80.

So basically a new cooling system now on the D2 as well. Should have done the 60K when I bought it at 50. I would have saved myself some problems. Now I have to do the intake manifold gasket and get rid of the oil seepage.

engine temps great so far. surprised how the air pocket raised the temps so quickly during fill up and how unresponsive the dash gauge was. feels like i have more pressure now (leaking fixed?). i'm gonna wait and see if i lose water and if it holds do the system flush and refill properly.

re: how unresponsive the dash gauge was

It is just following the computer program to point at the center from temp "X" to temp "y", and it does a great job of that. But most owners want more than an idiot light with a pointer pretending to be an instrument. Glad SWMBO won't be taking the bike, one flick of the wrist and troubles are behind you....

The 03/04 one piece clutch/fan units have 2 extra fins compared to the earlier ones as well. I am not certain if the degree of the angle of the blades is any different through. They will all blow air, but subtle differences in design can change the total CFM of air flow. Sounds like you have it worked out which is great!

Mine is an 02...despite the post headline.

well the Torqflo (standard) fits in the spot where the LR sat, within the fan. a few bolts hold it together with the original fan. I opened the holes very slightly with my drill and just bolted it right in. one of the blades has thin chunk missing so I should probably replace it at a convenient time.

otherwise all good for the moment. the system feels really pressurized, i'm minimizing waterfall effect and in search of a stable cooling system.

i chose the standard because I don't need it roaring like my D1. if my temps don't stay the same I could switch to one of the two more powerful fans.

slang,

you should keep a close eye on that fan blade, once they are out of balance (chunk missing) they can come apart pretty quiclkly. Costing a radiator and what ever else gets in the way.
