After airbag replacement the system is still not coming on. Doors, hood shut engine running the compressor won't run. I check under hood fuse and swapped relay with know good from another circuit, no change. I jumped power at the relay and can manually make the compressor run, but no noticable ride height change within 20-30 seconds of running.
Does the system have another control unit or somewhere else that can be checked for a electrical based issue?

I just ran into this problem with a 2003 L322 range rover.
Changed the air bag and the compressor wouldn't run.
Turns out the computer shuts the compressor down so it doesn't burn out.
We hooked it up to an autologic computer, ran diagnostics on the airbags(got them to inflate and deflate) then cleared the airbag malfunction and it reset the system.

If you have swapped the SLS rear air suspension and they are sitting correctly try operating the raise and lower button on the dash with the ignition on and all the doors closed for 10-20 seconds and then switch off the ignition. You should hear the compressor working without the engine running and the ignition only on. You can do all of this by either sitting in the truck with the drivers window open or do it through the drivers side window. After 10-20 seconds ensure you stop the compressor by turning off the ignition and check the SLS air bags for correct orientation and no creasing or twisting. If the compressor doesn't work you either have a software problem, the motor on the compressor has burned out or the compressor is dud. You can rebuild compressors and I believe Rovers North sell the parts to refurbish it.

i'm an idiot. the tailgate was not shut properly. new right rear air bag works like a charm.
i'm in debt to each of you for your help and suggestions. i can't express appreciation enough.
just in case anyone can answer this -- one more slight problem. what would make the radiator hoses collapse? when cold, they literally touch sides. when running and warm, they expand properly. air in the line maybe?
