The 04 is only worth the extra money if you can afford it. If you overspend to buy then can't afford the maintenance it needs then it's not worth it. For what you are going to use the truck for the earlier D2, 99-02, will be fine and cost a lot less. Only year I would recommend staying away from is the 03 due to the oil pump issues.
