Default 16" tires no lift

OK, I just spent the last 45 minutes searching through posts, and have not found a 100% satisfactory answer.

Is there a recommended tire size for a D2 with no lift, that won't look ridiculously stupid if a 2" lift were to be put on at a later date?

I currently have 255/65R16 General Grabber UHP's with about 70-80% tread remaining. We are predicted to get up to 21" of snow in the next few days, and based on the recent snowfall (10"), I am thinking that summer/street tires aren't going to cut it. With CDL locked, these tires have had no problems starting from a stop in 10" of snow, but they have made my butt pucker while turning, no matter what speed.

My D2 is at factory ride height currently, though I would like to put a 2" or so lift on it at some point in the future (even though it would no longer fit in my garage, without major house modificaitons, and have to be parked in the driveway).

What I am looking for is something in an all-terrain, that would fit my current suspension, and perhaps not look too stupid if and when I got a 2" lift (maybe in a few years).

I can get a pretty good discount on tires locally through where I work, and have been looking at the Grabber AT2s, Dueller ATs, and Hankook ATMs.

Any recommendations? I only put about 5,000 miles a year on it, and cringe at buying new tires when the current ones have lots of life left, but if they aren't made for snow, it would be cheaper to replace them until spring than risk hitting something, and I ultimately plan to go with an A/T tire eventually anyway.

I have 255/70/16 coopers on mine now tex. they have lasted a long time from the looks of it (bought the truck with em on there), good tire for ya.

just found these 255/70/16 (30"). more than likely what I will be ordering. $551 shipped to my work. that's a good price:

If your wanting a 33" (265/70/16), check these out:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/P265-70R16-NITTO-265-70-16-TERRA-GRAPPLER-TIRES-/110643006075?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories &fits=Section%2520Width%3A265|Aspect%2520Ratio%3A7 0|Rim%2520Diameter%3A16&hash=item19c2d64a7b

will be 2" larger though so you would have to be careful running stock, but free shipping that's a good price on those (cheapest i found anywhere). the Nitto Tera Grapplers are #1 on most people's list.

I'm running BFG AT KO 235/85 16's...the picture below is with the stock (11 yr old) suspension...

They've been phenomenal off road and in the snow. I'm installing a 3" lift later this week and don't anticipate needing a bigger tire any time soon...

Really bad suggestion, you can't do any sort of semi-agresive wheeling with a set of 265's on a warn out lift.
I would suggest you look into a set of 245/75/16's and more specifically the Good Year Dura Trac, they are a great year around tire and pretty much out perform any AT on the market when it comes to snow and ice.

Mike, I was thinking about the 245/75/16. That would give me a 1.4" diameter increase over stock, which would still fit in my garage, and I don't think would look too undersized if/when I lift her 2", or would it?

I was looking at the General Grabber AT2s, based on reviews and price, but Tire Rack only shows them in a load range E, which I think is way too much for this vehicle.

*edit: Grabber AT2s in 245/75/16 only show in load range E

That's for a 255/70/16 (I am not sure if they make a 245/75/16 for the AT2).

The Dura Tracs are good tires, toss in the Revos, or hell might as well get the BFGs at that price. Your in the upper limit price range at that point, hehe

It all depends on your budget I guess.

Mike you messed around with the Good Year Kevlars AT or MTs? Read a lot of good reviews in 4x4 mags on those. $$$$ though...lol
