Because the fuel tank is plastic when it is "vacuumed" it will "implode" and then it will eventually crack from the repeated stress.
Take your plastic 2.5 gal gas can from the garage and fill it half full.
Let it sit in the sun and then stick it into your freezer, tomorrow morning the sides will have caved in, this is what the faulty LR fuel tanks would do due to poor venting.
Then they would crack and leak gas.
As for the fuel pump not working when the tank is under vacuum...nothing moves in a vacuum.
In order to remove liquid from a container you must displace the liquid with air.
Take a quart of oil, open it and then turn it directly upside down, no oil comes out until more air goes in, that is why it goes "glub glub glub" and comes out in "clumps".
This is elementary skool physics.

Pancho-make sure that your truck is down to a 1/4 tank of gas or less before you take it in.
You may also need to remove your tool box.
Rent a car if you need to, ask the dealer in advance if the have loaner cars or discounted rental rates.
Most import dealers offer free loaners for warranty work and discounted rental rates for everything else.
You might get to drive a LR3 for the week.

I have an app on my iPhone that I use to track my mileage. I don't bother resetting the trip odometer for every fill up, I just use it when I need to track a certain distance. I input the total mileage at every fill up, then input the gallons. It does the math for me, and will also do statistics over a fixed period. I've applied for a new job that requires a lot of travel, and with this app, I was able to tell my wife that the Disco only costs me $.19 per mile to drive, and I get reimbursed at the rate of $.55 per mile, so I still get to drive the Disco if I get this job.
