1996 disco won't start
I went through this recently and for me, the fuses were fine and it turned over but did not fire. Listen for the fuel pump circulation. If you do not here a hum or buzz from the fuel pump that may be the issue.
Also had a short once. The fuse kept blowing due to the short. I found a bare O2 sensor wire that was causing the problem.
Hope this helps and good luck.

CHanged the computer, still won't start, swaped out relays, nothing. Fuel pump is running with the key on. I have the ignition harness out now and I'm trying to find one to put in. Looks like this is going to get exspensive and take a lot of time. I live in Alaska and everything has to come from the states. This Disco would make a great boat anchor.
are you saying "no spark" because you've checked for spark, OR assuming no spark because it doesn't start. Turn the key to the second "on" position without trying to turn the engine over and listen in the back of the vehicle for the fuel pump to run. If the pump isnt running it wont start. If the pump runs...then check for fuel pressure @ the fitting on the fuel rail.....fuel should squirt out......if the pump runs but no fuel pressure ....the fuel filter may be at fault . Lets eliminate the common stuff first before you start throwing parts at it
Yes I've checked the spark at the plug with an in-line spark tester, no spark. The fuel pump is running and I have pressure to the rail. Yes the check engine light comes on when I turn the key on. I eliminated the common stuff while standing in a snowstorm in a parking lot. This is why I am frustrated with this vehicle. There is about 10 different things that can cause the problem of no spark. It also turns over sometimes and othertimes I get nothing when I turn the key. All the lights come on but the starter doesn't engage.
pull your fuse box under the dash and look it over closely. I had a little trace of water on the outside in between the MFU and the box. Upon opening it, water was all over the traces. Sometimes no starter, and sometimes I could turn the key to on, and it would start on its own.
Just as a test, check the MFU and all that it drives... the test procedure is at the bottom of the page.

I checked for moisture but none was present. I checked the ignition harness and it is good. I'm going to check the crank sensor today and see if that's sending signal. I read in the manual that the sensor is an important component of the starting and running of the vehicle in American assambled vehicles. Mine was assembled in UK but you never know. It still doesn't make sense that you can't read the computer with a scan tool unless the crank sensor is in-line with it somewhere.
Did a test on the crank sensor, hooked up multimeter and turned it over and got nothing on all miliamp scales. I think this is the culprit. Rover here didn't have one in stock so I had to order it but it was less than $100 bucks with express shipping. Kepping my fingers crossed.
New crank sensor installed and still doesn't start. The only two things I haven't changed are the ignition harness and the main relay. I thought the ignition harness checked good but if the crank sensor checked bad but was really good I must be screwing something up when I test them. Anyone have any idea's? I'm going on 3 weeks without a vehicle and need some help here. Thanks.
