I just pulled my dash apart and there is no spider! Does the 99 D1 not have one, or is it somewhere else?

 

Does your alarm work?
If you lock the door and then open it from the inside does it go off?
I think the only reason they said this is to '98 is because mid '99 is when the DII came out.
But all DI's are the same, so either your alarm has already been removed or you just have not found it.

 

The alarm does work, but the spider is definitely not present behind the center console.

I replaced a suspect positive battery cable clamp and cleaned up the the main relay, and now it seems to be running perfectly. It will take a while before I have confidence in it, but I'm certainly enjoying driving it right now.
