Not quite apples to apples but my 4.6 P38 has a lot more power than my 4.0 D2. The P38’s power is adequate for our British Columbia mountain highways. The D2’s is not. The extra horse power is ALL extra power and is very noticeable.
Casual,
The Wildpeaks are awesome! I had a set of 33s on a first Gen Dodge Durango. They handled really well in the snow too. Mud terrains may give you some road noise, but most modern all terrains are very quiet and comfortable on road. I wouldn't worry too much about the load range (ply rating). The Wildpeaks use a fabric sidewall construction which allows the tire to flex a lot more. We use steel belted sidewall construction at work. Those are incredibly stiff. You can always ask to go put your hands on a set of tires to see. Grab the sidewall and feel it. Then ask if they have any load range G tires. You should feel the difference.
As far as the springs, I had the TF042 and TF023V springs. The rears are progressive. I think (not certain) that I had the TF118 and TF119 shocks. Changing from those shocks to some modified Jeep JLU Rubicon shocks altered the way it rode. That's why I suggest the shocks. Same springs and different shocks can alter the ride quality. That being said, the TF springs did sag. I think OME would hold is shape better. My D2 always had 32s since before I got it. Performance does suffer, but it's never going to be a race car. The only caveat would be if you plan to tow at any point. Again, not impossible, but it may be miserable to tow with that hit to power.
That’s great to hear about the Wildpeaks! I was just going to go with the 265/65r18 or ideally 255/70r18 A/T3Ws but they’re beginning to be hard to find as the A/T4Ws have replaced them. I’d rather go with the 3s as they’re tried and true but I’ll begrudgingly gets the 4s if I have to.
Sean over at Lucky8 recommended to go with the TF229 Terrafirma ProSport 2inch MD kit as in his opinion the OME is stiffer and the TF pro sport will be better for daily driving. The kit looks to have the TF042 and TF023V springs on it but with the pro sport shocks.
An owner who has had both TF and OME lifts is pushing me towards the OME however as he has had poor ride quality issues with the TF in the past. Not sure if this was due to him having different shocks or springs than the pro sport MD kit - waiting to hear back.

Gearing helps some but does not solve the lack of power for going up in tire size, especially at elevation. Not a lot of oxygen 5k+ feet.
Do not run load E rated tires in an unloaded truck you will hate it. No suspension set up will make up for that.
A 4.6 might help some more but still going to be not a whole lot of a help (at least where I live).
Manufactures keep the suspension stuff vague as every truck is different. You want to really dial it in then you won't be buying TF or OME shocks. For 2" of lift and a street driven truck you won't really notice the shock lengths, should you upsize? yes, will you destroy stock length shocks? no.

These are the tires I am looking at which are SL I believe. I’ll keep in mind to avoid E load, thanks!
If you aren't doing aftermarket bumpers and racks why bother with new springs over spacers? Nothing will ride better than the stock springs and shocks. All of the lift springs lift the vehicle primarily with spring rate, not length. I had the 2" RTE springs and they were only .5" longer than the stock springs and rode horribly so I sold them and went with new stock springs and spacers.

I don’t have a good answer for you there as lifting is new to me. I watched some videos of D2 suspension lifts and it looked like it was simple/easy to do with the tools I have so I went down that path. What spacers do you recommend and how easy is it to do compared to the suspension lift?
I have the 2" TF spacers. I also added the TF shims to the rear to get it up a little higher than the front. If you can swap springs you can do spacers. They just bolt in under the springs.
If you do spacers, l'd still replace coil springs. Face it...they're 20 years old. Spacers and original coils are a nice option for someone that just wants a lifted look...
Had an 04 that the coils were wasted, just changing stock coils brought it up an inch or so. I'd bought 2" spacers, but the "boss" didn't want that much lift (wife), so l took them to work and cut them in half on bandsaw. 1" gave it enough clearance for a bit larger tire and a nicer stants...in my opinion. Even the boss was happy with it...
Agree with whomever mentioned it earlier...but a 2" higher stants is what these Dll's should have come with from factory...and a 1" option for soccer-mom models.
if you are driving the D2 at all, i'd recommend getting the new tires as soon as possible. i just had some 2007 Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus that blew out a side wall at 35 mph on the street. there was no visible prior damage to the side wall when this happened.
i've only had them on my '04 for 3 or 4 years. they must have sat on a warehouse shelf for a long time before they ended up on my Discovery.
put on some 2024 Hankook Dynapro AT Xtremes and the ride is so much softer.

I ended up purchasing the OME MD from L8 as I’ve had people assure me that I will be happy with it. Worst case scenario, I hate it and end up just buying new oem springs and shocks with 2 inch spacers in the future.
@deputy you’re 100% right, the current springs and shocks are done. Small dips in the road have my butt catching air off the seat. Also my “boss” is 5’4” so she’s going to have to get a step ladder or build some calf strength

wow that is concerning, glad you were only going 35! Those new hankooks look pretty nice especially for the price.
Yeah the tires are my first priority as their age is really sketching me out. I’ve got a new set of 265/65 wildpeaks at3w which should be delivered today or tomorrow. Was planning on waiting to throw them on with an alignment after I got the lift kit installed next week. However now I’m wondering if I should get them on right after they are delivered just in case. Problem is I don’t think the 265/65 will fit on the stock suspension.

So turns out the OME MD kit is sold out everywhere in the US due to a lack of stock of shocks. OME is an Australian company and US retailers get shipments in on mostly a quarterly basis. I called every retailer (including ARB) and none had any idea when they would get the next shipment of “new” (just renamed) shocks. ARB told me it could be 6 months. Just to be clear - the “new” shocks will be identical to the old, just changing the name from Nitro Charger to something else.
I could however just get the OME MD springs and since I didn’t feel like waiting 6 months, I ended up buying the Fox 2.0 shocks from L8. Installation should be finished tomorrow. Will provide an update then
