Default Which 2 inch lift are you running? Pros & Cons?

OK, how about a quick opinion poll thread on which 2 inch lift you're running and why you chose that option? I think there are a lot of us with "stock" Discos who are thinking about a lift and weighing the options like TerrafirMa and OME, but it would be great to hear the good and bad about differently priced options out there and first hand experience.

My go to, I've done this twice and am about to a third time, is a bit more diy and gives 3-3.5" lift.

Get a second set of stock rear springs, use them in the front.
Buy 3" cut offs of 4" aluminum round (ebay), drill two holes, use as spacers under the rear spring perches. Longer bolts required.
Cut and shorten the front shock towers 3-4"
Weld tabs to the shock mounts in the rear for shock extensions.

You can also buy replacement lift shocks and use that spring method if you can't weld, but if you're on a budget it works pretty good.

If you've got the dough, though, either brand of lift is pretty good. I've got a buddy with the Terrafirma 3" kit and it's pretty sweet.

My 01 with 2" TF lift and shocks, medium duty.

Empty...



Loaded for bear...(8 day trip, two people, tools, food, rock-hound wife's collection of agates on board, etc). As you can see, she squatted some in the rear.



Same lift in my 03...



Ended up adding 1" spacers...and in my opinion...that gave it the perfect stance. Planned on adding 285's...but the battle was real with this Dll...so l sent it to "meet its maker".



The 2" TF lift and shock set up worked well in all conditions, on and off road. Ride was pleasant and not too much body roll (granted, l'd removed frt and rear sway bars...so you had to stay on your toes). Looking back, considering some of the overland loads it carried...heavy duty rear springs would probably get the nod second time around.

But, in order for that to happen...Victoria would have to be left idle...

Victoria has 1.5" OME HD lift with bilstein shocks. Rides like a buckboard wagon when empty...but with rack and some additional weight...she's tolerable...add the RRT and camping gear...and she's sweet.

I'd go RTE 3" coils with the TF 4 way adjustable shocks. Still looks good with 265/75/16s but will fit 285s if you want to bump up. This set up handles quite quite well, pleasantly surprised by these shocks.

I'm running the Terrafirma 2 inch lift kit from Lucky 8. HD springs. My original springs were sagging a lot! The 2 inch lift felt more like a 3 inch lift - plus I'm running 265/65/18 Falken AT3 Wildpeak's that fill the wheel well much better than stock size.



Stock suspension and tires on the truck on the right.



The price was right and I've been really pleased with how the truck rides and handles.

Alex_M - Thanks for the input on your custom set-up. I don't have access to a welder or shop equipment at present, so I can't go down that route, but absolutely want to take a project like that on in the future. It's going to have to be a purchased system for this application.

The Deputy - Your pics are great to get proper perspective on what things would look like. I'm leaning towards the TF 2" and figure that the medium springs probably make the most sense. I don't have an expedition rack to load up or roof top tent, and don't (yet) have steel bumpers or a winch. I'll just have the typical camping gear loads, so things should be in the medium spring range. The Bonatti Gray 03 SE was a good looking rig - RIP. Also, are those Atturo Trail Blade A/T's on the Defender? Curious what you think of those.

T-rex - Love how your Disco looks with the lift and the Wildpeaks. I have the same wheels on the truck I'm thinking of doing the lift on, and was thinking of running a similar tire size.

I run TF spring and OME shocks for 2 inches, mine also sits back loaded up for 3 or 4 days off road. I am adding a 1 inch spacer this spring to counteract that. You can see it in the image below, not a lot but enough but I did have 5 gallons of gas back there too

@DiscoID Medium Duty another member here @acg donated them to me. I have no plans on adding a winch, the RTT adds 150lbs with the rack etc so you think it would be ok but there is fair bit of weight back there.

It actually looks worse than it is, my front tires have more "gap" than the rears. The picture below is me out for a day drive unloaded for the most part, you can see the difference.

2inch TF MD plus 1inch aluminum spacers, on my 02 Kalahari, 2inch OME MD plus 1inch aluminum spacers on my 99 D2, and my 04 has 3inch RTE HD springs. I like the ride of the MD TF/OME and the 1inch spacer makes up for the height. The RTE's I have are the cherished older units back when RTE springs were really really good, so although they are rated as HD the ride is very good.
