Default 2 of my first problems today. oh boy.

firstly, i live in albany NY, im 18, and this is my first land rover (i have a passat too). yesterday it was 90 - 95 all day. now ive had my disco II for a year this week, and it has 75xxx on it and its been great for all its life (bought it off a family firend). yesterday however i went to clean the engine bay out after off roading 2 days ago and noticed a massive bulge in a hose that im not posivive of what it is. i went to my local shop and the owner who had a DI and a Range Rover said that if it blows ill have a big problem, so im replacing it tonight. (pic below)

PROBLEM 2.

after going to the show and getting the replacement hoses, a buddy from out of town came in from college and wanted to do a little off roading, so i took him to a spot about 6 or 7 miles away that i go to test **** out, and all was well. after using 4L for a minute or so, i went to switch back and found that, well, it wouldnt. the lever could move back and forth easily and clearly wasnt connected to anything. i drove home in 4L at 20mph down the road with my hazards on. i called 2 friends with jeeps and we spent 3 hours looking to see what was going on, and we found that the cable, or hydrolic hose used to activate 4L was not connected to the transfer case (or something) and we managed to connect it and get in into 4H, but now its stuck in 4H. sooo what to do?

Default welcome

Your problem # 1 is just to replace the hose thats bad. if you havent had the hoses changed and being you dont know if any have , assume none have ever been changed. It would be smart to replace them all. Remember replace a week hose with a strong one and then the rest start going bad. Good time also to flush your cooling system. Thats a start anyway.

problem 2: do you have the rave so you can identify which hose was disconnected? If not download the rave and see whats what so you can post with specifc items that are missing or broken. There are some pretty sharp people on the forum but they hate to guess....It could be worse and you could be stuck in low

You also dont need to ***** A simple Sh^%t will work... We keep it pretty clean but hey, we own land rovers, it's comes with the territory

Get back with what you find, Chris

Oh I LOVE to guess, hell, just ask anyone, all of my answers are shots in the dark.

What he said, replace ALL of your radiator hoses.

The hi-lo shifter on the transfer case is a mechanical linkage, it came unhooked.
There is a "C" clip (not 100% on that) that connects the shift linkage to the t-case.
You will need to clean up that area and find out how it connects and then fix it.
You may need to get under another DII and poke around to see exactly what they use.
The dealer might know also.

The rave is a manual with everything about your Disco. Its basically and owners manual + more.

Get it here:
http://www.landroverresource.com/

Its a must for LR owners.

reconnecting that shift lever is probably going to be a pain in the *** from underneath. I believe the lever, about 3 inches high and gold colored, needs to pushed towards the rear of the vehicle to engage 4hi...somebody refresh my memory..is this right? anyways if thats the case take a flashlight, mirror and some kind of rod and try to push it back. At least then you can drive it until you decide how to reconnect the cable to the lever.
