Default 2000 Discovery - Battery Draining

2000 Discovery with 50k - in good shape except for one relatively new issue; the battery drains after the vehicle is not driven for a few days. When this first occured I assumed it was simply a dead battery as it was over 5 years old therefore replaced battery and vehicle ran fine. However the vehicle is not driven daily so after being parked a few days the battery was completely drained. Thought it was a defective battery so it was replaced under warranty. 5 days later the battery was drained again. No accessories (lights, etc) are inadvertently left on. The alarm is intentionally disabled. Vehicle ran fine up until 6 weeks ago when this issue began. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Thanks in advance.

You might have a short. An auto electric shop has special tools to quickly trace shorts.

There is a recall action to make sure the vehicle is configured to "Power down" the windows after turning off the ignition. It "may" be this that you have an issue with. If it is, it would be fixed for free at the dealer. Check you VIN number to see if yours is in this range........

this probably won't help, but when we first got the car, my husband would leave the keys in the ignition while parked inthe garage at nightand my battery would drain.

Check and make sure that your CD changer isint 'cycling' through the disc's, also checkthat the ABS pump isint still running.
Open the hood and listen for any sounds 30 mins after you turn the engine off.

The recall information is good. You may also have an alternator that is shorting, common Rover problem or it is having a charging problem.
Go down to your local auto parts store and ak them to do a free battery/alternator load test.
