I have a 2001 Discovery 2 that is running rough. over the past few years I have replaced the head gaskets, timeing chain, rear diff and the trans.Just this weekend I replaced the plugs, wire and coils. I am getting a shaking when I drive about 15-20 mph and again when I go over 75. I do not believe it is the tires because it goes away around 40 - 50 mph. Any help would be great.

 

A. Front propshaft, if still the oem style, is about to snap and tear into transmission. Inspect - if the double joint end has no grease fittings, or if they have not been greased (like every oil change), there is a rebuild article in the tech area (under $100 parts), or there are aftermarket shafts.

B. Rubber rotoflex coupling at rear shaft have tears?

I don't drive my 2001 D2 over 60 MPH anymore - period.
Saves gas and I figure wear and tear.

The issue was A. Two universal joints on the front shaft were bad. I replaced them all and also replaced the rubber coupling while I had it apart.

 

thanks for clarifying the issue had me wondering. Dose anyone know if you can drive a D2 with the front shaft out?

 

If you can lock the CDL (with wrench on the spud or with a shifter) then yes
