Default 2001 discovery II overheating

Well I think my head gasket finally failed on my Disco. I am by no means mechanically inclined but luckily I have a father in lawhich who is. I was on my way home from work on Friday which is less the 2 miles away. I stopped by the bank and when I left now less than a mile away I noticed my truck was over heating. I figured I would drive the less than a mile to my house and check it out. Now a block away at a stop sign the engine shuts off. I tried to start it again with no luck. Popped the hood to a bubbling coolant tank and decided to check my oil. Because I have read it so many times that head gaskets go at 100k miles which I am at 100500 miles and sure enough "chocolate milk". My father in law told me to check the spark plugs and tell him what I saw passenger side where all black with carbon. Driver side #1 #2 # 4 where all white #3 half of it was white. When. I told my inlaw he said for all 4 to be white I possibly have a warped head. We plan on taking it apart soon. I would be greatful for suggestions on which parts to use or anything to be aware of when I start breaking it down.

And I know before anyone says it is should of stopped when I saw the red light come on. I love my discovery and if I can fix it I will.

Honestly if the red light comes on the damage is already done. Good luck with the rebuild, at the same time I'd certainly replace the thermostat to the grey oem 180F unit, and the fan clutch. You don't want to do all that work and blow it all up again in a short time.
