Default 2001 Discovery sudden loss of power

We were driving home from Philadelphia to Washington on 95 on Christmas night. Out side Delaware my check engine light began flashing and lost power. If I down shifted to get the revs higher it would stop flashing and feel like it was fine again but every time I would drop below 65 it would start running badly. I stopped to fill up the tank and afterward it ran fine for about 10 minutes then it started all over again. It never over heated and it got us home. I would really appreciate it if anyone has any ideas?

So I am spit balling here. But two things, first of all if that check engine light went on the engine left codes in your Engine's Computer. To read those codes go to your local autoparts store and ask them to read your codes, they should let you use their code reader for free.

Give us those codes.

Now with out those codes we are just guessing, but based on your description, it maybe an issue with the fuel system, like bad fuel pump, blocked line, clogged or bad fuel ejector, nasty gas. With my guess going to the the fuel pump. But again this is just a guess.

If it fuel system you might want a garage to do a pressure test on fuel line.

Let us know what the codes are. My guess would be P1171 and P1174.

Fuel Cap not venting inwards? Also a guess... Loosen cap and see if it still happens. That might also throw a code since the cap is open, but it would help diagnose if it's the cap.
