I didn't see the original post but would have said an electrical short if I had. Glad you got it sorted.

You mentioned in one post checking for excessive oil in the intercooler. That wouldn't cause the engine to stall. Excessive oil would cause a runaway diesel. Just a tad worse than what was happening to you.

"a runaway diesel" always fun to watch if it isn't yours.

Every oil heads nightmare but thankfully very rare and generally only on badly maintained or worn diesels. There are valves available to insert in the air intake and used extensively in oil refineries and petro chem offshore rigs but they aren't cheap to buy, around $1,000 for a manually operated valve, but cheaper than a lunched engine.

Regardless this issue, to reduce the oil vapor going out from the engine cover and back to the turbo inlet, I had installed a PROVENT 200 to separate the oil from the air, keeping the turbo inlet with clean air coming from the air filter.
This improves keeping the intercooler dry from oil.
As mentioned on earlier post, intercooler was dry like desert in the summer.

I fitted an intermediate oil capture tank to my Pajero, they breathe a lot of oil from the engine breather into the intake which ends up in the intercooler. Fortunately the TD5 doesn't suffer the same problem................. yet
I might even fit a tank anyways to filter out the oil as the ole truck has now got 128K on the speedo. A good alloy tank with a drain plug is sold on Ebay UK for £20.

Possible oil catch pots for the Td5
