Default 2001 se7

hi all.
looked at a disco today, 2001 se7, one owner, 208000 miles. 92 service records. I looked at them and the owner took it to local dealerships from 2001 until present. its got a few scratches, needs new mud flaps and a headlight washer thing. it has a neat step to get into the back and has jump seats.

ive always wanted one of these and I figure if the trucks engine would've blown up it would've done it 50k miles ago. price is 3400, my budget is 3k.

anyways, any input would be appreciated.

IMHO $3,400.00 is not bad if it's in good shape in/out minus the usual little dings/dents with any used car. If you aren't familar with LR's I'd have it looked over good before buying it.
With used LR's you get what you pay for. 3k and under range IMHO is where you can get a decent rust free good body fixer upper. 3k and up is where you can get a D2 that if taken care of needs just scheduled maintenance and maybe new tires.

My 02 Kalahari was 4,500.00 with 220k on it a year ago. Poor guy tried to sell it on/off for over a year. Every single electrical item works, no rust, no body damage, and mechanically flawless as he had everything done at the local LR dealership.I happily paid the man his asking price and I've done nothing but enjoy my Kalahari. I of coarse changed fluids and the usual inspection as with any used car, but I've been able to jump in and drive it vs fix n tweak it all the time.

Honestly I've never bought a used D2 with the exception of my 99 D2 for under 3k that was what I'd call D/D ready or capable without needing a new motor or serious work.

For whats it worth, I bought an 01 SE7 with 135k miles for $800. it had 2" OME lift and body/interior were in great shape. Mind you it needed some work, but difference let me address issues the way I wanted to and could fully trust. Ultimately buying a used car is always a gamble. Some of us are more willing to gamble higher than others. All that being said Good Luck! Enjoy your disco, whether its this one or another.

My biggiest gamble was with an LR3. I fully inspected it myself, one week of ownership and it decided to go nuts. I diagnosed it along with my good LR buddy and it was caused by a bad brake switch and 12v PDI lead.

I'm gonna pull the trigger on an 04 D2 for 850.00 as a project. The paint is destroyed the interior has been painted, but it has a lot of off road goodies, and a 4.6L in great shape minus a combustion chamber leaking head gasket/exhaust manifold. I have no intent of it ever being perfect or to be a daily driver. It'll be strictly off road or for parts.

If you don't wanna tweak it 24/7 spend the little extra $$$$ vs complaining about it always needing something. Sounds to me like it has been serviced pretty well.

Check all fluids, and if it hasn't been done change the thermostat to the grey 180 OEM unit. Then maybe grab an ultra gauge or scangauge to monitor temps 184-210F is my max range with the 4.0/4.6L (depending on the area).

If you have issues post em as there are a lot of great people on here to help ya.
