My 2001 SE7 needs some help
I've been a lurker here for a few months, ever sinceI bought my beautiful 2001 SE7. I just turned 100,000 and low and behold, things started to break. My SES light came on and it felt like I was running on about 1/2 the cylinders.I took it into a local mechanic that I know has worked on LR's in the past. Once he diagnosed it,turns outone of my coil packs it burnt up. He also gave me a list ofother things to do including replacing my slightly leakinghead gasket. I was planning on doing the following....
8mm Magnacor Wires
Double Platinum Bosh plugs +4
Clean the injectors
1 New coil pack
Valve cover gasket
Head gasket
Silblade wipers
Rear break pads
Should I just bite the bullet and replace thehead gasket now, or just replace the valve gasket when he does the wires and plugs.... and then everything again when I do the Head gasket? Also, should I replace all the coil packs or just the one thats burnt up? I was planning on getting the parts from Atlantic British, except the wires and plugs which I was looking at apex performance which are a little cheaper.
TIA
Rudi

RE: My 2001 SE7 needs some help
Codes are P0300, P0301 and P0306. Looks like it's not firing on Number 1 and 6 cylinders.
I am leaning towards getting the entire coil pack rather than replacing just one set. Is it work it and do they routinely burn out aroun 100k miles. I'm looking at the coil pack complete bosch engine Item: ERR6566 would this work?
Also, as far as gaskets go, do you reccommend just getting the composit head gasket and rubber valve cover or is there something more reliable?
Thanks
Rudi

Rudi,
Until you get more familiar with Rovers, don't start buying parts. You don't need a coil, you have no coil fault codes, you need plugs and wires, Bosch Platium Plus 4 plugs and 8 mm Magnecor wires.
As for the leaks and overal work you are planning on, call me before you step into it big time.

RE: My 2001 SE7 needs some help
Mike,
Thanks for the update. I'm planning on just getting the wires and plugs and leaving the leaks for the next go around in a month or two.I't not yet at a point where it is an issue. I'm have no choice but to do it because we're driving from NC to VT for our wedding in June.
I'll be sure to touch base with you before I purchase any of the gaskets. There are so many gasket options on the Atlantic British website I don't need to order the wrong ones.
Rudi
PS I have got to say that this forum is by far the best (most knowledgeable and friendly)I have ever been on. Glad to be part of a close knit group like this. I hope once I lean a few things I can contribute in the same.

RE: My 2001 SE7 needs some help
Tony hooked me up with what I need and parts should be here next week. I also spoke with him about getting more stuff (brakes and gaskets) loaded to his website which he said is a work in progress.
Thanks so much for your help and I'll check back in when I get the plugs and wires installed. I've read up on the guidance given by you and other "in the know" onthis forum and I should be able to knock it out in a few hours. If I have any more questions I'll let you know.
