I am going to buy a 2002 Discovery II SD from a good friend of mine who is the second owner. Neither of us are sure what its worth. Carmax offered 7,500 on trade in, and BMW offered 8,000 on trade in. Can yall help me value this car?

KBB private party good condition is 12,850

Stats:
42,300 miles
18 months of CPO warranty remaining.
3 month old tires, basically new.
grill guard and lights are a year old.
body is in excellent shape for its age. like 4 scratches on the whole thing, black plastic trim is fading.
interior is good, it looks like vinyl seating to me, not leather?
headliner is starting to bubble in two locations.
Inspected by a land rover tech:
valve covers leaking a little(tech said no big deal with this car, is it?)
noticed car was repainted but saw no indication of a wreck or body work. tech said that this color had peeling problems and LR may have repainted it. whatever that means.
AC needs repair, dual zone is malfunctioning, one side hot one cold, SHOULD be covered for $100 under CPO. he said possible blend door malfunction.

Dunno. The price depends on a lot of variables.

I bought a 2002 SE with 55k on the ticker. It was in excellent shape as appearances go. Everything worked at the time I bought it. I paid $12K. Mine is loaded with all the bells and whistles. That said, it did cost me $3000 in repairs right out of the gate. Head Gasket, drive belts, etc...

 

i offered 11,500, the seller is thinking about it.

Its an SD not loaded. vinyl not leather.

 

I am concrned about it being a repaint, you need to find out why it was repainted, who did it and does it have any sort of warranty on the paint.
Most shops look at a repaint, for any reason, as a negative when determining a cost valve.
I would also have the owner make all the repaire, especially the A/C problems, before you pick it up.
I guess what I am trying to say is, if you can't buy it at a low figure, I wouldn't buy it, there are too many out there with all the bells and whistles for the same money.

Not sure on the value but I just picked up a 03 Disco SE with 40k miles for 15k.

Agree with advice above about getting the seller tofix itbefore you buy. Thats always a safer bet on your wallet.
