Question 2002 Disco SE7 OR 2004 Disco II ?!

I had a black beauty... a disco ii that my brother flipped into a tree. And after a few years, I have decided it is time for another Disco in my life. I wanted the community's input on this one:

Option 1: 2002 Discovery SE7 for $3950
Miles: 141,000
A lot of things have been done on this car. The owner of the dealership drove it personally.
Added Terrafirma Shocks,
Terrafirma Steering Damper,
Terrafirma towers,
upgraded to heavier duty winter tires,
added usb inside front and rear,
new headliner installed inside,
replaced all the engine hoses, and claims all parts he has used are from Atlantic British.

Known issues (or at least disclosed to me):
The ABS light comes on and off, but he claims it is nothing to worry about.
Front bumper has a few small cracks in it.

2002 Land Rover SE7

OR

Option 2: 2004 Discovery 2 for $3000 negotiable...
Miles: only 86,000
Excellent condition
Pretty much stock.
Well cared for, used for this private sellers family mostly.

Known issues (or at least disclosed to me):
Just started taking a while to start up in the cold, and he is not sure yet what the issue is, and might even be willing to drop the price more as a result if he doesn't get it fixed himself.

2004 Discovery 2

SO

I wanted to get more of an enthusiast's opinion. As I understand it, there are a few differences between the 2002 and the 2004 models, including the engine size and performance. What would you think is the best bet here based on what we know are potential issues for the models, preventative maintenance, performance etc, etc. I do not plan to take it hard core off road and plan to use it locally, some highway, with the occasional trip to the mountains for boarding.

Thanks!

If the 2002 is being sold by Outback Garage I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole that place has screwed over so many in the Rover Community

An 04' Disco with 86k miles for $3,000 negotiable? What am I missing here? Am I reading this correctly or are my contact lenses sticking to my eyeballs again. It looks like an SD. Private party. Stock. Dood, get the 04'. If the price is negotiable offer $2k and go from there. Have you seen undercarriage photos? Any major rust? Service records?

Sorry more thoughts on the 02 even if its not being sold by Outback garage, if it was serviced there at some point I still wouldn't take it. I am the first to praise a good service shop or vendor in the community, but also have no issues pointing out the problem spots in the community either.

I'd buy the 04 if it is clean and rust free even if the motor was scrap at $2k

Wow! So are you from the area? I am on Long Island -- He said he had one at a Land Rover specialists's garage in Bay Shore... I looked at Outback Garage, sure enough... Bay Shore!

Yeah. 2004 has the Center Diff Lock stock. Bonus!

You'll want new offroad tires on it so budget there. Check for no major frame rust underneath and for overheating on your test drive.

Thanks for the input. I know there is a decal on that 2002, so it leads me to assume it was serviced there. Come to think of it, the owner said he had it worked on and also has a parts car in Bay Shore... Sure enough, when I look up Outback Garage, they are in Bay Shore.

Hence his nickname from some in the community of Bayshore Butcher..

Save yourself the heart burn and look elsewhere.

Not in the area just know a few folks that got screwed personally and heard even more stories. Oh and how could I forget the videos....

The slow starting is probably the starter. My ‘03’s starter wore out last year. Sounded like a sick cow.
