Possible victory in the Disco Hunt this weekend...
So After all this ....
The 2004 Disco turned out to be a rust bucket. The rear under carriage was chipping apart. Drove all the way to Staten Island... Too good to be true.
The 2002 turned out to be pieced together from, I believe, outback garage and other shops around long island. It was not sitting right with me.
Then a 2003 popped up, which we attempted to by on our way home. Silver (though we really wanted black), 101k Miles, overpriced in typical New York fashion. For some reason the guy said to just come back tomorrow with a certified check, and wouldn't take a cash deposit from me...
Then, on my way home, thinking we made a decision, a local from my own town texted me. I put a note on a windshield at my gym parking lot to whoever owned the disco if they'd sell to text me... Perfect condition. A 2001 Black Disco II SE. Original Owner. only 65k Miles. Immaculate. Cleanest engine I have ever seen.
Paying a little more than book value but totally worth it. I should be picking it up from her tomorrow night and will definitely send some pics. I have one from today. I'm glad the other guy didn't take my cash!
Now the fun begins. I need a rack for maybe some snowboard / kayak gear to get started.
2001. Single Owner. 66k miles. 5 minutes from my house. Got damn lucky.

Some other preventative things I would like to learn about are the chat above regarding changing other fluids, not just Oil, during maintenance...
Also I'd like to know what others do to help prevent corrosion under the belly. Here in NY, the salt on the roads and the salt in the air just destroys everything....
Lastly... oh boy I want to lift this thing, put some bumpers on it, etc. But it is literally perfect stock condition. I almost dont want to touch too much

WELL DONE!!! You have joined the fraternity of idiots! You’ll love it and there are a slew of enablers running around the internets.
First order of business GET AN ULTRAGAUGE!!!!!!!! Or something to monitor coolant temps. This is imperative. I wouldn’t even drive it home until you have one- it’s that big of a deal.
In in terms of corrosion, I actually flew to Kalifornistan for my latest one (didn’t even have any surface rust). And there is copious salt here too. I mitigate by going to the car wash and getting on my hands and knees no more than a week from the car getting salted.

Keep it stock. Maybe throw on some new tires if it needs it but otherwise the classic look of a minty one like yours is very difficult to find especially with low miles. Are you planning on taking it to Moab or down logging roads? If so, probably should have paid less and gotten a beater. But hey, your truck your money.
