RE: 2002 Disco... upgrade/mod questions
Thanks for the explaination, Urban. The Garmin Nuvis do, by the way, have spoken directions and text-to-speech street names. In my opinion, it's the best of both worlds--consistently accurate and on time spoken directions and the ability to scroll around a visual map if you don't know exactly what you're looking for or just to get a better idea of the area.
When I first bought the Nuvi, I couldn't believe that it worked as well as it does--it's a rare occurance that electronics exceed my expectations, but the Nuvi did. There are a few software changes I would make if I could, and I did have some problems with the bluetooth (mainly the fault of my phone, I think) initially, but...it just works.
Also easy to take from vehicle to vehicle on trips.
I will say that one downside, compared to a built-in option like Urban's, is that the risk of theft is much greater. I unclip the Nuvi from its mount and hide it in the car every time I get out, which can be a pain...

Just one more post on the Garmin's Nuvi line...the 660 is now selling for $350 (see link below). If I remember correctly, this model sold for over $1,000 when it first came out. The 660 model is identical to my 360 but has a wider 4.3" screen and a built-in FM transmitter. I paid $350 for my 360 six months ago and thought I was getting a great deal then. The prices on these things just keep dropping!

And, no, I don't work for Garmin or buydig.com...just happened to see this deal listed on another site today...
