Default 2003 D2 tail lights and shift lever lights

Hello

I have to apologize, I consulted the rave manual but I'm having a hard time navigating through it - it's over 1500 pages

My questions are:
1. I see what looks like two lights on the rear bumper of the Disco - one half of the light is red and other half white. Do those red lights light up? I've tailed a few Rovers on the freeway and noticed only the upper red rear lights shine at night time. But then I saw one Rover where the red lights on the bumper were on. Can someone tell me whether the red bumper lights should be on at night?

2. On the shift lever indicator (the one which says P, R, N, D) on the center console - are those supposed to light up at night too? Mine doesn't, and before I start to tear it apart I want to know upfront if I'm wasting my time

Thanks in advance for your help

Al

The red lights on the bumper are rear fog lamps. There is a button to the left of the instrument panel. Headlights must be on to turn them on.

And yes the gear selector lights are supposed to light up. There is a plug on the underside that may be loose.

Lr2001Silver: That's good to know. How do you get to the plug? Do you need to remove the plastic cover that has the P-R-N-D letters?

If you pull up firmly on the assembly, it will come up. Like with all the plastic parts, just try to do it gently so you don't crack or snap anything. The shifter **** will come off if you just pull up, but that takes a bit of force. Once you have it up, you can check the one connection and make sure it's not loose.

Pull the e-brake and put the car in Neutral to pry off the shift ****...the shift **** is pretty durable and you have to yank on it pretty hard...just watch that you dont knock off your rear view mirror in the process.....

With it still in neutral pry up on the corners of the shift indicator plastic. The lights are right below it, one on each side.

The shift **** isn't the concern. My point was to pay attention when you pry up the selector panel. If you get going too fast it's easier to crack or snap the plastic.
