Default 2003 Disco 2 gear slipping

Hello all i'm new to this forum but wanted some more experienced rover owners their insight on this problem.

Ive recently bought a 2003 land rover disco with 130k miles on it for an extremely great deal, i've been wanting one of these trucks for a long time and finally found a great deal, But anyways on to the problem. The issue seems to be it not wanting to engage into high gears while going up inclines and it just slips and does not want to engage. I hope its not the whole transmission as I really don't want to have to replace that as I don't really have the funds to do so at this time. I have purchased a new transmission filter and am going to perform the flush and replacement on my property as I have the equipment to do so but i'm curious if there might be anything besides that, that might be causing the slipping while under load. Also this problem occured on a really hot day here in California.

Sounds like the XYZ Switch could be faulty. Is the M&S lights flashing?
There is an easy step by step fix on the forums to remove, open it, clean it , regrease, reseal and reinstall the switch.

here it is...

Default Changed ATF fluid

Changed the fluid and seems fine now driving and going into higher gears alot smoother drained the old fluid was dark brown and really low so we changed it and topped it off and it's fine now, only issue is the three amigos seems to be on but I think it's the shuttle switch.

You are going to want to do that ATF change again in a couple hundred miles, dark brown is pretty bad, and the left overs can contaminate the new fluid. Just run it long enough to get everything well mixed then replace again, while you are at do the filter in there. It is a lot cheaper than a new transmission or a rebuild.

For the amigos get the codes read, trust me there are a lot of things that can trigger those. One of the 4 sensors, SLABS, Modulator Shuttle valves, wiring or connectors, you need to know what is wrong rather that guess.

Finally go through all your fluids if the tranny was neglected the diff, transfer case, driveshafts etc were likely also ignored
