Default 2003 Disco II 60K miles running rich HELP

I've a 2003 Disco II , it just turn 60K miles runs great no issues. But every time I am stop in traffic I can smell it running rich. Could it be the Oxygen sensor or the catalytic converter or maybe something else?

Any help would be welcome.

You may have some stored codes that would narrow the chase down, any check engine light on?

Could be O2 sensors (they tell ECU how to adjust fuel rich or lean), but they usually makes codes. Since this happens at idle, the idle air control valve could be involved can be cleaned with carb cleaner spray, remove, spray, but don't move the tip by hand). The mass air flow sensor if dirty can make the engine computer use bad data for adjusting fuel mix. MAF can be cleaned with a special cleaner made just for it, but only when stone cold.

If you don't have a code reader many auto parts stores will read for free, write down the number of the code and search that or post it back here.

Nope. Don't think so. You can go to most any auto parts chain and they will read the codes for you.

I've got code P 1000 is that O2 sensor Up or downstream. Anybody?

Or should I go ahead and replace both?

Thanks

P1000? Where did you get the codes read? Or more importantly, cleared?

Regardless, it's likely the upstream (closest to engine) as the downstream likely is fine at your mileage.
