2003 Disco II cranking but not starting
Hello! Crank but no start. Had same issue about 3 months ago, replaced the crank position sensor and all was good. Out of nowhere it again cranked but no start. Crawled under and wiggled the wires to the CPS and fired right up and ran fine for a few more days. Now won’t start again and wiggling the wires didn’t work. Could CPS have crapped out again that quickly?
Engine light is on but codes are for O2 sensor.

Was it an aftermarket sensor? If so then yes it could have gone out again. Also I've seen people fab a heatshield to protect it from the hot exhaust which seems to be the culprit that takes out these sensors.
Probably aftermarket, picked up from O’Reilly, would Bosch be recommended OEM? Also noted that the wire the CPS plugs into was wrapped with electrical tape, possibly from some heat damage? Have only had the Disco since April so don’t know much about its history.
On the bright side, it has only done this at home when engine was cold, has never had an overheat issue where it has to cool down as I’ve seen others have noted.

I had similar issues with my 2002 S2 ...although the fault indicates the sensor to be faulty, swapping it is not always the final solution, so a few things to look for... ...I initially took it to a mechanic that suggested it was the timing belt, but I took it away from him ...after a few days took it to another mechanic to have the sensor replaced; the sensor I provided to shop from AAP got replaced and still crank no start, they checked from fuel to compression and suggested I had to replace the engine, so took the truck away from them (btw, they did not replaced the sensor cover, left it on the frame, i realized that later when truck was in my hands and i was looking around in the engine bay, they also lost the bolts) ...upon checking myself, I saw that one spark plug wire was burnt and broken, so thought this was part of the crank but no start issue, and do not know how previous two shops did not see this or mentioned it ... it may have contributed, but at the end not the final culprit ...at this point wires replaced, sensor replaced and still crank but no start ... someone suggested I check the coil packs, so I also decided to replace them, and even got the initial sensor replaced from AAP with a new Bosch ...after all these parts replaced, crank but no start, and since battery died on me, I jumped it and after a few tries it fired up ...drove to an AAP , had the batt checked, and they replaced it under warranty ...so add new batt to all parts replaced at this point ...truck ran great fro a month and at a stop light it simply died on me ...no signs, no nothing, so back to crank and no start ...replaced the sensor under warranty once more, and still crank but no start ...after nearly a month with truck parked, a LR indie mechanic in Pompano was recommended ...towed the truck there ...he had it for nearly a month ...checked again from fuel to compression to electrical and found nothing that would make the truck crank but no start ...checked and replaced as necessary sensor, coil packs, wires, plug, fuel pump ...and as a last resort suggested testing the fuse box, but couldn't find a loaner since mine was very specific ... but I was lucky to get one from similar truck than mine in junkyard, but unsure if working ...with luck, and LR Gods on my favor, he swapped them and truck came back to life ...no related issues since ...this was last year ...you can look my thread here ...so unfortunately is trial and error for this crank but no start issue, hopefully a sensor swap will be your final solution while down this rabbit hole ...so good luck!
Definitely not CPS. I believe the issue is the wire just above that the CPS connects to. This may run right into the ECM. Does anyone know if this wire can be replaced and/or what it is called? Can’t seem to locate in the RAVE manual I downloaded.
Heya, figured I'd chime in here and at least give some tips. I don't think we have the same issue since yours is intermittent, but mine sent me down a rabbit hole that included a lot of people pushing me to pursue many different directions of possible repair related to crank, no start. The thread is long and sometimes confusing but includes many things to try.

After nearly a year, tomorrow I'm putting in a new timing chain and all associated components in an effort to revive this truck. I'm an extremely stubborn mechanic if not obvious from the post but hopefully it gives you some direction.
Good luck,
