2003 Disco II vibration in gear, but not under power
2003 Discovery II.
After full warm up, there is a mild vibration that can be heard but not felt in gear, forward or reverse.
It nearly disappears altogether when you put the truck in park or reverse, but is still barely audible.
In gear, the moment you apply any power at all it completely disappears. Nothing at all, anywhere through the RPM range. Even if you just lightly push the pedal without letting up the brake, the vibration noise goes away.
Looked underneath and I don't see anything obvious.
Sounds like it is coming from directly below the shifter.
Any thoughts?

How do I check the drive shafts?
I took a quick look at them while changing the oil, but could not see anything obviously noticeable.
How would I determine where, and how bad the rattle is.
Thanks

Using the forum search function will bring you a wealth of information.
Is it possible you are just a more observant type of person and not yet accustomed to a new to you vehicle.
What's the "gulfstream" for in UN?

I've had the truck for almost two years.
It is a new noise. It is getting more and more noticeable.

Appears to be a nice original Cougar. Been awhile since they were on my mind and it didn't register.
Have you exited the vehicle while wheels chocked, engine running, trans in gear and parking brake set to nose around, looking, listening and feeling in an attempt to better isolate location? Using a mechanic's stethoscope may help.

That was what I was thinking. Figured I'd throw it out there for some ideas for where to look.
The search function gave me a couple of ideas. Thanks for your help. I'll report back when I get it sorted.

Just wanted to follow up. The rattle was the exhaust. The clamp between the Y-Pipe and the muffler had gotten loose. Sometime before I owned it, somebody replaced the muffler and used the wrong size/type bolts to do the job. The bolts had come loose and the Y-pipe was rattling badly against the clamp and muffler. I cannot believe how loud it was.
A couple new stainless bolts and lock washers and presto. The noise is gone, and the truck runs considerably quieter.
Thanks for your help.
