Default Disco Boggs down under load/shift into gear

2000 disco2 with 155k. On the clock. I just finished a new head gasket job along with a new water pump, plug wires,sp and the normal stuff. I got the truck back together I think, thanks rave! I fired up the truck and she runs good, I am still working on the idle. Its a bit low 400 to 500 rpm. The engine revs great and then I go to move the truck outside and and it starts to run ruff and will not make power/rev up past 12 to 1500 rpm well. Also a ses light. I have not had a chance to get codes. I shift back to N/P and runs sounds great. Thanks so much guys. Long time reader first time poster.

Are there any irregularities when idling in gear or in neutral? As in, do the rpm's "flutter"? Sounds like it could be a vacuum leak somewhere.

TPS tells the ECU what angle the throttle plate is at. If worn spot or erratic, it is like a noisy volume control on an old radio. At idle, the TPS may be in a good spot, and IACV is controlling the engine speed. You may be able to unplug the TPS and force the ECU to use a fall back value, and see some change. Not sure what it would show on your data reading scanner. Note that minimum position of the throttle plate is not "zero" percent.

Try hooking up on ohmmeter to the tps terminals and slowly move the sensor through its range of motion. The readout should increase in time with movement and should not jump around. That should help narrow the fault. When was the last time you cleaned your throttle body? IACV? Also, you had to remove the throttle linkage to do the gasket job. Did you set the tension correctly when replacing?

Go get the codes read so we don't have to guess. Don't try messing with the idle as far as adjusting it goes. Have you cleaned the t/body and Idle control solenoid?

Hey guys!

I did clean out the intake and TB when I put things back together. I was planning on a seafoam treatment as well. I am in hanging a new Radiator in the next day or so. The old one is still in but I have started the process so no water in the engine now. So it will be a few days till I get back to the engine. Any tips on this or is it follow the rave? Thanks guys for all the tips. This was my first head job on my own and this place helped a ton!
