2003 Discovery II - Transfer Case Issues
Sorry for crashing the party with my first post being a request for help, but here I am.
I purchased a new (to me) 2003 Discovery II with 147,000 miles on it. Long story short, newly permitted daughter accidentally drove it over a small retaining wall in a parking lot. As a result, the steering gear box and transfer case needed replacement. After a faulty rebuilt xfer case, the garage finally found a suitable replacement and installed it. But the vehicle isn't without issue...
The vehicle drives fine, moves into High - Neutral - Low and back again. The issue is that the 'Transfer Gearbox in Neutral' warning light (the two gears with the line through them) blinks and has that consistent associated dinging. Additionally, the vehicle will shut off, but it wont let the key return to the 0 position to be removed.
Searching the internet I found the fuse 37 reset process for the Range Rover, but alas, no such process for the Land Rover.
I really don't have much experience in larger project vehicle repairs, but I'm not shy about trying almost anything with some guidance/instructions.
Fire away with any info gathering questions or recommendations/suggestions.

If it operates in Hi and Lo without issue, then the problem is probably with the neutral switch. It's normally open (I think) so it may be damaged causing a permanent ground. Or, there could be a short in the harness somewhere.
If the BCU thinks it's in neutral, it throws the light, the ding, and locks the key in the ignition.

Number 32. Near the output section where the front driveshaft attaches. Check the wiring, remove it and test the plunger on the end that is triggered when contact inside the box is made signaling the switch. Replacement @ RovahFarm.com
Awesome, thanks Chubbs878.
I was poking around this morning under the vehicle and think I found exactly where you are pointing out. Does the sensor just unscrew as normal, or is there something I need to do to prep it?

Number 32 in that photo is actually the Hi/Lo switch. The neutral switch is on the top of the main case. The wires have a blue cover in this photo.
And yes, they just unscrew and they should have an aluminum sealing washer. A set of crows foot wrenches are helpful. These switches are either 17 or 19mm, can't remember.

ah hell, sorry about that. let us know what you find. 15 minutes of tinkering should provide some results...like he was saying about the Crow-foot wrench.
