Finally got new tires so it’s starting to come together. Went with LT275/65/18 which is bigger than I wanted but a good deal at pep boys.

Still running hot- 221 at idle and 217-221 on highway. Drops by 10 degrees when I turn on the heat. I’ll probably boil the thermostat and make sure it’s opening. Still need to check out the cats and the rear sensors but won’t be able to do that until tomorrow.

I have Cooper M&S and have been very happy with them.

Also, looks like there are issues with your rear O2 sensors.
Yeah it’s a new thermostat but I will pull it and boil it to see when it opens. Sensors are new but I will disconnect them and clean up the connectors and see if I can get them working.

I had real issues with a genuine 180 that was previously working not opening, then a 190 Genuine not opening, and finally with a new genuine 180 it opened. I was squeezing hoses, tested it without a thermostat using an old t junction to diagnose.

My biggest regret from HG job was not changing the valve stem seals, and a close second was not converting to inline thermostat.

maybe try drilling a hole I. The thermostat to aid in opening? I thought about that, but did not try it.

You need to throw the factory stats away and do the inline thermostat mod, your thermostat issues will go away. Additional bonus is you can bleed the system much easier and change thermostats if you ever do have a problem without losing all your coolant.

I’m concerned about getting in over my head and introducing new problems.

Is the mod simple? All the pictures I’ve seen look pretty chopped up with 2X the hose clamps.

Before making a mod, I would rather look for the root cause, especially if you have a rebuilt engine. My D2 got a little too hot too and I replaced tstat, fan assembly and radiator step by step in conjunction with coolant flushes. Every step brought a small improvement. Now coolant temps are at 190F max. Also, incorrect connection of hoses can be the cause (was reported here, so this mistake can really be made) as well as insufficient bleeding.

Agreed! Highway driving recently dropped the temps down into the high 190s with the AC on. High temps now only present at idle.

Ive had the brakes bled and did a fluid exchange on the power steering. With the new tires and shocks the ride is buttery smooth. I would not, however, recommend the 275/65/18 tires though. Too much rubbing when pulling into parking space or doing a U turn.

Still have about 350 miles on the break in period.
