ok - couldn't help myself.

First Read Codes: P1590, P0135, P0155

After erase (and no restart), no codes present.

Also, didn't drive it long enough today to have all monitors for Inspection/Emissions come back but the following are "ready" or good to go (not bad at this time): Misfire, fuel, comp (comprehensive components)

Inspection/Emissions monitors that haven't had enough time to tell me if they are good or not yet include: Catalyst, Evap, Secondary Air, 02 sensor, 02 heater

...radio works great! had to try it

All - for a code reader with live data, would you recommend the ultra gauge?

seems too good to be true for only $70 or so...

I'm not familiar with the ultra gauge myself. I'm not really partial to any brand or anything. When buying a scan tool, as far as live data goes, you should look at the number of data PID's the tool supports. The more the better, you never know what you'll run into. At a minimum I would want one with fuel trims, O2 data, coolant temp, throttle position and so on. The first scan tool I bought was an Actron that was about $200 or $250 and I still use it to this day. It supports 112 data PIDs. They don't all work for every vehicle, but the important stuff always seems to.

I've got an ultragauge and it works great for what it is designed for. It reads lots of live data of course, and has nice alarms you can configure for things like coolant temp. It's not very easy to change the settings on the fly, so trouble shooting with it will be a little time consuming to setup. Fortunatley it has like 8 pages of gauges you can configure, so I guess you could set a few up for "troubleshooting" purposes with fuel trims and tps and whatever else you need, and then have your primary page for temps, rpm, voltages, etc, whatever you want to see while driving down the road.

I like my nanocom for live data, programming, and it will even work as a gauge (but it's kind of bulky). It's quite a bit more money, but a very handy tool to have for a DIY land rover owner, especially on D2 or P38.

Thanks for the info on UltraGauge and other options

Started up this morning, just to start up, and scanned.

All the same but one code returns only at this time: P1590

That's an ABS code. Are any of your ABS/TC/HDC/Brake lights on? You'll need a scanner that can read those. There are a few options these days, but that is one thing an ultra gauge will not do.

Yes, 3 amigos were on long before my tear-down/rebuild - they are still on

i expect i have some work to do on pads and rotors... but later...

Service Engine Soon also on but, i suspect i will go and clean the front two O2 sensors thoroughly and see what i get... that one is something I need to get done before i can get it emissions certified for the road i'm guessing....

that and I bet i'll likely get the power i'll be expecting if those are functioning correctly

gonna get some electrical parts cleaner for the weekend while i wait for the shipment on the steering pump bolts.

Congratulations on the running Rover.
You can use

http://enginecodemaster.com

to look up codes.
Put in say P0100 or such.

Always A P first.

All the code in http://enginecodemaster.com were loaded into it from the Rave pdf.

That's because I got tired of looking in the Rave for codes to help people out.

Best.,
J
