Tires will only make noise when you are driving, if it is making noise at idle you have something engine related going on.

If they cant get it sorted out by Tues morning demand your money back.

Hey everyone...I spoke with the dealership. Here's the news:

1. Tires: The front driver's side tire was patched up due to a nail. The rear tires are cupped. They are replacing all four tires, mounting, and all that for free.
2. Checked the drive shaft. Didn't find any issues.

They said they feel the tires are what is causing the issue. Everything else checks out.

The car will be ready by Monday night/Tuesday morning. I mean, I'm not sure what else to do at this point other than take it to another mechanic - independent - and get them to check this out. I STILL have not gotten my 140 point inspection details. He was supposed to have it for me when I dropped the car off on Thursday but he didn't. Said he'll have it for me when I pick the car up. This has been their excuse the entire time.

I am located in Northern Virginia.

Once you get it back see if it is still making the noise.
Dont sign for anything or even leave the parking lot until YOU start it and listen to it run.

I have new tires! Brand spanking new Michelin's on my 2004 Discovery. No charge from the dealer. The cabin noise has gone down tremendously but the engine still is quite loud when we're idle-ing. That still needs to get checked out...they said the drive shaft is fine though. Not sure of their definition of 'fine'.

Of course I still don't have the 140 point inspection. At this point I'm just going to ask them to re-do the 140 point inspection or I will simply take it to another dealer and whatever they find I will expect them to fix it.

Thanks again for the help guys!

i say call LRNA if they dont do an investigation as to what the noise is. you can use a digital camera and take a video when the engine is running and open the hood and put the camera toward where you think the noise is coming from. we might be able to help
