2004 Land Rover Discovery SE Brakes?
Well it is time to do a brake job and ive gotten some outstanding quotes...
$1200 from Land Rover Orlando
$900 w/ tax from C and H Auto Rover
but ive priced out a brade kit from RoverParts.com for $320
http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/9542.cfm
anyone familar with it? how come its so cheap? I have a mechanic that could put it on for fairly cheap, is this a good alternative?

Just curious, but are your rotors warped or really worn down bad? If not I wouldn't waste the money on new ones.
Don't pay anyone to do it, DIY. Save a ton of money and it's an easy job ;-)

How many miles on your truck?
I also agree, if your rotors aren't warped then just install good pads.
Why do't you do them your self, they are pretty easy to install, sure save you some money.

I dont have the time or knowledge between work and school to start DIY projects.
I have 30,000 miles on the truck, but we do trailor a bit with a boat. The pads have been changed once, and ive gone to the dealer several times for the routine 7500 mile check up and the last two times they have told me they need replacment. The mechanic that did the pads told use the 1st time the rotors were find and just to replace the pads, but now they make some noise when braking (usually if im turning) like into a parking lot. So i feel it might be time for a total redo...
So how bout that kit from roverparts.com ?

With 30K on the odom, your rotors should be okay. They may just need to be cut back a little.
The noise could also be from the dirt buildup from the pads.
Did the prices include replacing the rotors or cutting the rotors?

I have two prices for complete replacment of rotors and pads and the hardware and labor ... $1200 from land rover, and $900 from a local rover shop
I have a feeling ive put enough wear on these rotors from towing and hauling that its time for them to be replaced. There seems to be a big lip on my rotors and every place ive taken it to says they wont machine them on the rovers ... who knows.... ill try washing everything and getting rid of the brake dust and see if that helps out the squeeling.

First, you can't resurface Rover roors, so the shops are right.
If you don't feel any shutter from the brakes on a hard stop, you'll be fine and there is no since in replacing something that still has some life left in them. By the way, all Rover rotors develop that lip.
You can buy some life time guaranteed ceramic pads from Auto Zone for under $160 and have a good set of brakes.
If you have to have a shop do the brakes, don't spend more then $250 which would include a full brake flush.
