Default 2004 misfire and ticking?

Well I have done some searching and now don't know what to think.

First off I'm a auto tech at a small auto shop so I do know a lot I just know that there are people that know a lot more about land rovers than I do

Start up cold no ticking just a exhaust leak on the pass side ( I can find that ) but engine has a misfire

engine warms up and exhaust leak gets little better (makes sense) but as engine gets warmer there is a louder ticking noise (sounds like lifter noise) the ticking goes away when RPMs come up or driving down the road. After a good drive come to stop, the ticking is not as loud but if you let the engine idle for a few minutes the tick is back strong and loud.

I pulled codes and got p0203 and p0303 and from what I found on the internet is 1 is cly #3 misfire and cly#3 injector.

Someone put new plugs in but i'm not sure what they are yet because I have not pulled them out I wanted to order the right plugs to put back in and I noticed the wires are not looking so good so I will change those as well.

I think the exhaust leak and the misfire should be straight forward, I'm just a puzzled with this ticking sound.

Any Land Rover geniuses out there

Thanks
Mark

www.apexperformance.net for the plug wires, Magnecor wires or you will be doing it again in a month.
Are you using premium gas?
It sounds to me like you have excessive engine sludge or a weak oil pump.
If you do not run premium gas you will sludge up the engine faster than a prom dress comes off.

Mark, how many miles on the engine?
Are you still running the factory grey wires, get rid of them.
I'll walk you thru a good engine ATF flush that will usually get rid of the tick if it has not gone to a mechanic issue over a oil issue.

it has 61k on it
I have not had it long
looks like someone changed the wires at some point
I thought only 03s had the oil pump problem?
yes premium gas but is not a fuel ping

Thanks
Mark

What brand of wires are on there?
Your tick is not an oil pump issue.

There were a small number of 2004's with bad oil pumps.
Start with new plugs and wires.
