Default 20w/50 or 15w/50

Is this too high for a Disco II with low miles? If so, reasons why? Will it clog or make it difficult for the pickup tube to work properly?

So you found that a thicker motor oil would not flow as fast,
and that newer motor are put together with tighter tolerance and the thicker oil
would not lube all of the motor parts and you would get premature wear.

My last two vehicles one used a 5w30 new and at 150K I was still using it, my truck had 220K
and stayed with 10w30 from day one.
My Disco I 10w40 summer 5w40 winter.

The only time you may want a thicker oil is when the motor has wear, not seals leaking
but metal ware.

10W/30 oe 190W/40 is as heavy as you need to go if you live in the hotter areas other wise a 5W/30 is great. Trick is get the best oil and filter you can buy and change the oil every 3000 miles.

I'm assuming you meant 10W/40 instead of 190W/40! [sm=jawdrop.gif]

okdiscoguy,

a mixture of assembly lube and 85W140.....

Not really.. 10W30. I ran 10W40 this spring and had a lifter tick. I drained it and put the 30 back in. Sounds like new...

I can get you a deal on some. My brother just moved to Charlotte and sells it. I think it will be around $68 a case. Also, have you changed your diffs and transfer case yet? That's where I got the biggest improvement...

Had to edit and say the price is for motor oil, not gear oil, it's higher. If you want a quote, let me know..
