3 Amigos coming on sporadically
I would highly recommend anyone who has not yet done it, just go ahead and give your DISCO the ABS vasectomy. A little snip and stitch and you're done.
Option B is really quite a simple operation once you get the allen wrench socket key.

It can be shuttle valves, the shttle valve seals or internal electrical faults within the Wabco modulator. It can even be anyone of 4 ABS wheel sensors or worn wheel bearings.
You need a good quality OBD11 reader to isolate the various faults exactly.
Here's some pointers around the Wabco system.

If you own a D2 you should get an ABS Amigo. I've seen lots on this forum and others for cheap used. They read and clear all your ABS codes. These trucks are very sensitive when it comes to this crap. My D2 lights up in the winter when my brakes squeak.
Definitely don't bother waisting your time or anyone else's until you read the codes. I would bet it's a wheel sensor. They are easy to change. Don't just start throwing money at things.

I have been able to get rid of the 3 amigo problems on my 2001 SE7 twice. Once by replacing a bad Hub Assemblies & ABS sensor (expensive) and once by replacing the cheap battery with an Optima Red Top and keeping it on a trickle charger all winter (cheap).
You are correct sir, I believe there are one or two diagnostic models in the US specifically for reading ABS codes only plus the Britpart Lynx, Nanocom and the Hawkeye. Apart from these I haven't any experience of others.
Hi. I realized the other day that the 3 amigo's have not come on for many months now. Still not sure what caused them to come on sporadically back in February so unfortunately I can't post a solution here. Just wanted to give an update though and not leave the thread hanging.
Best,
Best,
I get the 3 Amigos fault at lease once every 2 months on my 2001 Disco II.
If I don't have my iCarsoft CR Plus handy to clear the faults I find a very steep hill and then...
- put the Disco in low gear,
- push the "Hill Descent" button on the dash while in Neutral,
- let the truck creep down the hill and let the ABS and shuttle valve do it's job,
- get to the bottom of the hill,
- put truck back into high gear,
- put gear in Park,
- restart the truck and the 3 Amigos are gone for another 2 months.
Adios!
