Default 3 Amigos make a brief appearance

The other day I cranked my 2000 DII and the 3 Amigos lit up. After work they were gone. They have done the same one more time this week. Is this how they usually act? No problems with the truck at all. Is this something that will go away on its on or do I have to start throwing money at the truck?

And the CEL is on also with the code P0442. Otherwise known as the loose gas cap. I have tightened it down good, but the CEL is still on. Autozone says they will get fined $10,000 if they turn it off for me. What do you guys think?

I think somebody sued AutoZone and so they cnt turn the CEL off any more.
Do yourself a huge favor adn buy your own OBDII scanner, I bought one off of e-bay for $75 shipped and it does live data too, like engine rpm, engine temp, TPS reading, MAF reading, everything.
Replace your gas cap and then clear the code and see if it comes back, the light wont just shut off on its own.

I bought a cheap scanner from Autozone for $60, it only scans and erases and checks the MAF but I needed one right away. The 3 Amigos will probably come back I bet and stay at some point. For me it was intermittent until they stayed for good. Do you have a bad hub? I had a bad hub that caused the 3 amigos, caused my tire to shake like crazy at around 45 mph. Otherwise wait and see if they comeback.

Man that's a sweet scanner. The scangauge-II I have can't give me definitions. =( that's the only flaw it has IMO.

You need to deal with the ABS codes, TODAT, before the stay on all the time, when that happens you are looking a a charge of $100 or more to get them rea, plus repairs, before they can be cleared.
Do your brakes squeak, if you throw a panic stop at 30 MPH on a loose surface, can you feel the ABS pulsate thru the brake pedal?

No squeak in the brakes. I have to get back with yall about the pulsing of the ABS. What is usually the the cause of the three amigos. How much money is it gonna take to get rid of them for good?

There are may things, the worst being your whole ABS modulator is busted ($$$$), or it could be the Modulator Valve ($$$ or $ depending if you can repair it). Another possibility is that your hub is bad and causing your wheel to shake and tripping the code (this happened to me). Then it can be simple things like dirty brake fluid, a bad ABS sensor, brake squeal, and got knows what else.

What happened with me is that my hub was slowly going bad and the wheel shake would trip a 1590 code then disappear then come back and eventually it was on for good.

Well, the 3 amigos have been gone now for about 2 weeks with no appearances what so ever. However I did notice the other day as I was stopping for a red light a faint squeal from the brakes. Only heard it once so far. Might this be the cause of the 3 amigos?

And on a side note. The CEL went off on it's own. The cap was loose so I tightened it really good and about a tank later it went off!
