Maybe it could be mounted on a roof rack or hung off the rear ladder so it won't be involved in a hit-n-run.
I'm not sure how deep you've researched in to the diesel heaters so at the risk of hijacking my own thread, here's my input given my (generally positive) experience:
1) I have a 2kW model and it's PLENTY powerful enough to keep my roof top tent comfortable and I run it pretty low. I think a 5kW model would roast you out of a car and you would run the risk of running it so low as to not get he combustion chamber hot enough for a good clean burn. In general it's better to run a smaller one hard than a bigger one low. This is mainly a concern for me because:
2) The all in one model has the controller attached to the unit, you can't take it off and put it inside to act as a thermostat so I just run mine in the "Hz" mode which is a steady state operation. This means my heater is always on which is what I want because when the heater cycles on or off it starts up the glow plug which draws about 9 amps for 5 or so minutes. While it's running steady state (at a low setting) it draws about 1 amp so I can get a lot more runtime out of it by running it constantly (as counterintuitive as that seems).
3) The fuel lasts a very long time, I think mines a 5L capacity and I bet you it would run for a full 24 hours on a single tank.
4) The unit is relatively tall and top heavy (with fuel, because the tank is on top) so make sure it's secure and you can get it up and off your roof rack- my main issue with a roof rack mount is:
5) The combustion air intakes and exhausts out of the bottom, so you have to bend the exhaust pipe out of the side. This in and of itself is not a problem (but it does require some clearance) but the exhaust is HOT and I don't like how close the pipe would come to my roof (I have also considered a roof rack mounting option).

Happy to continue the conversation if you want to start a new thread or DM me, don't want this thread to get too far off topic.

It’s a factory option, STC8830AA.
they pop up for sale occasionally, the coating can fail and rust them out easily tho.

Has anybody found a file for the instrument cluster surround? I have an Ender 3 Max and want to see if I can make it fit. Mine is being held down with wood screws and nothing else but I can't quite shell out the cash for a new/used one.

I laser scanned the binnacle and ave considered printing it, that would be one long print though. Is your ender bed big enough?

I would think so, to look at just the cluster surround it's not quite a foot wide and 3/4's that in depth. My printer can handle a little over a foot in every direction. I have two young kids or else I'd have the time to try to design it in cad. Man if somebody has done it that would be a HUGE help.

I have not finished the design, yet, but have considered replicating it in CAD. I will PM you to work out details.

I'd be interested as well. I have an Ender3, I'd be up for doing it multiple pieces if I had to. My CAD/Fusion skills aren't the best but I'd like to help if possible.

I built a cup the other day lol. As far as item being built segmented, as long as a solid joint design is used I'd be game to try and design some larger items. On particular the interior windshield pillar trim (the ones with the speakers). I can cannibalize the speakers from my current parts, but the mounting/lock tabs are destroyed.

Backstory: I just bought this 2000 Disco 2, and to call it a hoopty would be an understatement. It needs a lot more love visually than I can afford. She's good mechanically though.
