The third gear change stutter/dwell/stumble never happens on the TD5 at kickdown or otherwise which has exactly the same autobox so it leads me to believe it must be an electronic gremlin inique to the V8 Rover engined D2's.

Turned out to be a terribly underpowered, worn out engine. Had it rebuilt, problem has been gone for two years. I believe it was so weak that when it shifted into fourth it would just fall on its face. They aren’t exactly powerhouses to begin with and I had a head that was shot. Hope this helps some.

So are shift points and kickdown electronically controlled only or is there a mechanical linkage somewhere?
