Default 4.0 or 4.6?

Po of my 02 disco II told me the engine had been swapped with a 4.6. Are there any markings to tell if this is true? I need to know before I swap the maf sensor.

The serial number of the block is located where the oil dip stick enters.

If you don’t know the history of the engine, for example someone took a 4.0 block and installed 4.6 internals the only way to absolutely confirm is dropping the oil pan and checking the markings on the crank. There will be a stamp with “Rover 4.6” toward the front. You might have to bar the engine over to see it.

MAF sensors are the same, the housing is the only difference.

If they had changed the engine to a different size, they should have also changed to the correct ECU and fuel pump to match. I purchased a 2004 (4.6) that the previous owner swapped in a good 4.0 block and internals, but used the 4.6 heads, injectors, ecu, and fuel pump. It ran like cr@p until my mechanic figured it out.

The engine number is on the drivers side by the dip stick. Use this chart to identify which engine it is.
