3 Amigos - only in the rain???
So if my Disco II is wet she'll throw me the 3 amigos. When she's dry, they go out and there's nothing in the history. I'm thinking exposed wire or something with a harness but figured I'd ask you smart gents before I go screwing around with it.
Anyone had experience with this? Any clue where to begin to fix it?

You know what, the piece of plastic between the hood and the windshield (where the wipers are) is broken on my Disco 2. That seems to be right above the front wheel sensor. Think that could be the culprit?
The first thing to do is check out the codes and identify which wheel is creating problems. The 3 amigos can be caused by a plethora of issues, the codes may/will identify which if you use a quality diag tool.
My guess, a pure guess, is that it's a connection problem either at the plug and socket on the inner wing top or a broken wire at the wheel end near the sensor. Which wheel is anyone's guess without the codes.
Yeah the original ABS sensor connectors can crack and get brittle over time and if water can seep into them = bingo it'll create a short and trigger the ABS faults. Newer ABS sensors ran all the way back to the SLABS unit, but in all honesty you can simply cut/splice the ABS wires together with an extension of cable and it will not affect the ABS sensor in any way. I've done it for trail repairs and some of the rigs I repaired out on the trail are still sporting my cut/splices.
Then either read the codes to see which ABS sensor it is, or if you have Option B Mod make sure your ground is good and clean.

when driving on very wet roads suddenly I would feel like a sudden breaking then the 3 amigos make there appearance on my dash. The car would still run ok but didn't know what was making them come on
I began to use my OBD2 tester but needed the 3 amigos to come up first before the code appeared as every time the engine switched off and the cables dried the 3 amigos would disappear
Once this happened I found what wheel i needed to check from the error code and it was as simple as the pics below show
just a exposed cable that had fallen out of its grommet holder and was rubbing.
The 3 amigos on my dash.
Rear wheel, drivers side abs sensor cable
Close up of the damage that brings up the 3 amigos when wet
all I did was a bodge job but I got some weather proof electrical tape, made sure the cable was dry and wrapped the damaged part of the cable
No more 3 amigos, and car all good, I may need to replace the sensor at some point but for now there is no problem
Good luck finding your problem
