Default 4.0L replacement motor?

I have an opportunity to purchase a replacement motor for my daughters 01 DII. They sent me a photo of it but it doesn't look like a 4.0L motor. Photo is attached. It's a low mileage unit that has been compression tested and has a 3yr. parts and labor warranty. Thanks for your help. D*

If I ever have to change out my 4.0L, I'm putting in a 4.6. I find my 4.0 to be too gutless. I really thing my 3.3 in my 2000 Nissan Frontier would beat it in a drag race.

Definitely not a 4.0L out of your era Rover. That doesn't mean it won't physically fit, but if it doesn't have compatible sensors and accessories it won't work with the electronics of your vehicle.

It is a Bosch engine, so right era. I wonder if it is a Range Rover engine.

It wouldn't be a diesel would it? It looks like a 4cyl of some kind. I need to make a decision on it by Monday. D*

Really hard to say. I don't see any spark plugs or holes although it does have the little guides for plug leads.
Unless you can definitively identify it, you're not going to know whether it will be possible to get it to run in your truck.

It doesn't seem to have most of the accessories you would be expecting to see on a D2, or even any place to mount them apart from a vacant mount at the very top of the engine. Even a diesel should have A/C and a steering pump along with an alternator and water pump. Hard to tell with that yellow card there but I only see two of those, and no fan. The pulley on the right is an idler/tensioner -- no grooves.

That's the right motor, worst case scenario is that it has a P38 acc bracket on the front.

Top pulley showing on right of card is the WP pulley.

Im 100% positive that is the right motor, but can see how the angle is misleading.

That is indeed a 99-04 Bosch 4.0/4.6L V8. It appears to be a non SAI engine as well unless they removed the SAI units from the heads.

If I decide to get it and it turns out to be something other than what will fir the DII they will pay for the return plus the refund of my money. Good part is it is low miles 76k with 3yr warranty almost a no brainer. Thanks to everyone for your help. D*

Checked my engine today, that vertical pipe rising up from near the oil filter adapter up between the yellow tag and the exhaust manifold is the line to the engine oil cooler in front of the radiator. This means a 2002 or earlier, as 03 & 04 didn't have the engine cooler in front of the radiator.
