Default # 4 cam bearing slipped. ugh

well, I was putting my 2004 4.6 back together when I found this. I was doing a head gasket lucky 8 top-end rebuild kit. and there it was. it wasn't slid back so far I did the with my finger. my questions are should I buy the upgraded cam bearings, what cam does everybody buy, and should I try and leave the block in the LR or pull it. thanks in advance.

I'd pull it and go through it a hundred precent.

Agreed. I did a set in the truck once, but if it's an option then I'd pull it and do all the bearings, fresh hone, and rings.

For cams, there's a couple options. Crower in the US has several different cams, and Kent in the UK. I've had both. I really liked the Kent H180. When I had the Crower cam I picked too big of a cam and used it in a 4.0, so I don't have a good comparison, but they have a long pedigree.

That stinks. But a question, what are we looking through there? (the hole?)

@nashvegas About have way down in the photo you can see a piece with ridges on it, that is the camshaft bearing. It should not be visible it has moved out of place on the forums it is often referred to as walked

Yep, I see that. I'm wondering what "hole" / "access hole" we are looking through to see it, if that makes sense ? Is there a hole in your engine ?

Thanks, Guys, well after a lot of reading and your commits I've decided to pull the motor and give it a full fresh-up with new cam, lifters, pushrods, bearings, and rings. I really was hoping to get away with a top-end refresh and do an LS Swap next year but hey what can you do when this kind of stuff comes up. Lol

Now, if you're wanting to just do an LS swap in a year then I probably would just replace the first 4 cam bearings in the truck and ride it a year and I wouldn't fool with the rest, unless you're wanting to sell the motor when you LS swap as a "recently refreshed" motor.
