Default 4L on the transfer case question

HI,

Can anyone tell me if there should be any indicator on the dash when I shift into 4L? I have a 2000 DiscoII and it runs great, no check engine or 3 amigos or anything. When I put it in 4L I don't see any light on the dash to indicate that it is in low range.

It is going into low and seems to operate fine.

Sorry for such a basic question but I couldn't find the answer when I searched the forums.

Thanks,

Art

No, there is no light, but however there is a ringing sound once you shift out of hi that will only go off once you are in low.
Are you arware that on your 2000 you can also set up the t/case so it is locked giving you about 50% more traction?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the quick reply. What rining sound are you referring to? Not sure if I ever heard it. As far as the diff lock, I am aware of it and I have downloaded some plans to make a lever that will be accessible from outside the truck (I can't afford the mechanism from a D1 or newer D2).

Thanks!

Just go out and put both your tranny and t/case in neutral and you'll hear it.
I saw a D1 linkage today for $100 if you are interested.

Hi Mike,

I would like info on the D1 linkage you saw for $100.00. I looked at the procedure for installing that and it doesn't look too bad.

Thanks,

Art

It was too good a deal and is sold, but here is a site that has them at $159 which is still good,
