Is the belt DEFINATELY on correctly, everything moving in the right direction?
Just a thought, I'm sure you probably put it on correctly but, you never know. Sometimes I miss the stupidest things when I get on a roll finishing up a big job.
Good Luck, sounds like you're almost there!!!

Default At a Loss of What to Do Next

Checked the belt, It is on correctly.... This is what I have done so far:
  • Pressure tested the system. Held at 16 psi for 3hrs.
  • Block tested the coolant and came back negative.
  • Ran the truck with the pressure tester in place and watched the gauge raise steadily. It moved slow and steady, no pulsing, etc.
  • Then let the truck idle in the driveway for about 20 minutes. The electric fan kicked on at about 16 psi (my guess about 228 degress if i do the math correctly)
  • The pressure gauge went up to about 25-26 psi and held their .....so I hooked up the I hooked up the OBD to get an actual reading. (212 + 26 = 239 degrees)
  • On the OBD water temp sat at about 239 degrees (idiot guage showed mid way). Than after at about 15 minutes at 239 the idiot gauge moved up and the temp on the OBD showed 242 so I turned the heat on and it moved back to 235. - then I shut it down.
The T-stat should open at 180* and full flow by 190*-192* Correct? Also, is the operating temp suppose to be between 180* and 220*? I just want to make sure I'm out of the danger zone.

Something is causing the truck to build heat and I am looking for some guidance as to what to do next...... Thinking about pulling the t-stat and sticking it on the stove in some boiling water to confirm it works. (even though it is right out of the box) then maybe drilling a hole in my old t-stat to releive some water flow.

Or I may go with the in-line t-stat mod. http://www.landroverclubvi.com/inline-thermostat.html

Any thoughts?

Default Problem solved!!!

Well after chasing my *** for about 2 weeks, ordering all of the parts to do an inline T-stat mod and guage. I found the issues!

I decided to do some investigative work. I pulled the brand new t-stat out and put it in a pot of boiling water along side the old t-stat to see what happens. I noticed the old t-stat opened and the brand new on did not. Disco Mike mentioned this to me.... that it is known that people have had issues with these t-stats right out of the box.

So the old t-stat is back in and the truck runs at 199 - 200 (with the a/c running in the driveway for 45 minutes). I have a temp guage installed now. This way I can keep an eye on things. And if all else fails I now have all of the parts I need to convert to an in-line tstat.

Thanks to Disco Mike for all of the input, and i'll try to keep the temp out of the danger zone
